Jam of Plus North South Highway

It's the end of Haji Holiday. Yesterday evening on my way towards Penang using PLUS north south highway, after Kuala Kangsar toll plaza, I saw the direction towards Ipoh was very jam, all car at both lanes were moving very slowly, almost not moving. It is quite common to see traffic jam at charged highway in Malaysia where there is long holiday.

Guess what, starting from Kuala Kangsar, I saw the opposite direction was jam for 29km. I believe it could be longer than that even till tunnel or Ipoh toll plaza. I felt so appreciateful that I was heading to Penang, not Kuala Lumpur.

Drive safely home my friend, no matter how jam it is. :)

Coffee Lane 咖啡坊, Penang

Congratulations in completed Chapter 1 of The User's Manual For Human Body (If you read it :p ) Let's have some food for today :D

If you love coffee, can consider to go to Coffee Lane at Georgetown Penang.

A few different type of coffee making apparatus.

Recommended by the shop owner Terry, I ordered a syphon coffee of Lavazza coffee bean. Here is the equipment to make syphon coffee.

First, heat the water.

Then, stir the upper cup which contains coffee powder. I am not sure if need to do anything extra, the water will be sucked into the upper cup. After the mixture is ready, the coffee will flow into the bottom container, leaving the coffee powder on top.

The ready syphon Lavazza coffee at the right hand side, coffee ice cream at the middle, and drip coffee at the left. I like black coffee, including this Lavazza bean. The aroma is good, and creamy. Yes, although I didn't add creamer, I felt it is creamy which Terry said it is suppose to be :D Oh it taste better when it is still warm. The coffee ice cream taste good too, cold sweet ice cream inside hot bitter coffee :) There are few more type of coffee bean available, tell Terry what kind of coffee taste you like, and he will make one for you :) You can try Luwak coffee at RM 50 per cup ;)

We ordered nasi lemak, the rice is very nice. For the herbal mee sua soup, the mee sua texture is quite special, not so soft. Terry said the mee sua is bought from Seremban.

Oh forgot the price, syphon coffee is RM 7, drip coffee is RM 5.80, ice cream coffee is RM 8.50. Both nasi lemak and herbal mee sua soup is RM 8.90.

Before the rest arrived, Terry play us 潘越云 hokkien song, this is my first time hearing her hokkien song :D and then Zee Avi, a malaysia singer. I am amazed by Zee Avi :D

UMHB: Chapter 1 - 2 doubts on blood test (2)

Please refer to Disclaimer for some information.

How to determine human body organ functionality is getting better or worst

We get clean water from tap, while used water goes in drain. It is very clear cut. We will never want to get dirty used water from tap. Human body blood circulation system differs from our life water drainage system in such a way of 'circulation'. Blood inside human body is being circulated and re-used a lot of time. Blood come from artery is clean, while that in vein is used. Used blood will then go to liver and kidney for cleansing, then lung to remove the carbon dioxide, becoming clean blood again.

If there are more garbage inside human blood, usually there are two possibilities. Firstly, related cleansing organ e.g. liver functionality reduce, detoxification ability dropped. Secondly, related cleaning organ functionality increased, detoxification ability increase, and thus more garbage inside the blood, this is analogue to yearly house cleaning where there will be more garbage than usual.

Let's take another example. In our house piping, most furring stick on the pipe wall, only very little will be found inside the water, and thus the water flow out from the pipe is clean. But when we clean the pipe, the stick furring will then goes into the water, and thus the water is not clean nor clear.

These scenarios happened inside human body. If someone always busy, his body functionality dropped, detoxification ability dropped, most of the garbage will stay and stay within a particular organ but not in the blood. Now, the blood test result will usually looks good. But when he got the chance to take rest, the Blood Qi level will increased, and thus organ functionality and detoxification ability. Blood will carry the garbage to cleansing organ, then outside of the body through phlegm, urine, sweat and etc. Now, the blood test result will usually looks bad, which then the current modern medication will categorize someone having symptom of sickness. In this example, the blood test result doesn't give any indication that if his body is working toward healthier way or the opposite direction. So it doesn't sounds logic to use these test figure to determine someone health situation is getting better or worst.

Current modern medication is to have all test figures to go back to 'normal' range value, and thus subsequent medication. Well, these medication sometimes could stop the body self-repairing functionality, which bring worsen effect to human body.

From these two doubts on blood test, in conclusion, most chronic diseases is not curable, mostly is because of the wrong direction of method of cure/medication.

Human body is a very complicated biological and chemical organization. It is a living chemical factory where its chemical formula will always changed according to the body situation. All medication test figures should be able to tell if a human body is becoming better or worst, and the necessary step to improve body health. There are still lots of room for improvement in current medication and test methods, or else current modern medication will continue to stuck in the bottleneck.

UMHB: Chapter 1 - 2 doubts on blood test (1)

In-range red blood cell count meaning no anemia?

A lot of people went for blood test. Blood test is usually conducted by taking certain amount of blood from a human body, keep in a tube, then send it to lab for different kind of assay. Some common tests are red blood cell count (RBCC), white blood cell count and platelet count. If RBCC is less, doctor will usually say you have anemia. If excess in white blood cell count, the claim will maybe is inflammation, or even leukemia.

These scientific tests looks convinced, and seems fine for all these while. But if you think about it deeply, it might not be the actual story. Let's take the example of RBCC and anemia. Anemia means the total blood volume in someone body is not sufficient. Are you convinced that just a few tenth or hundred CC of blood that a blood test can measure your total blood volume? In brief, blood test assay is taking proportion of certain substance inside a certain volume of blood, which is quantitative measurement. It doesn't sounds logic that we can measure total blood volume inside a body using this kind of quantitative measurement. Let me describe using a real life example. Assume inside a mall there are 1 million people and we do not know. We would like to know the total number of people and we started the survey. If we sample using 100 people, 60 men and 40 women, we may be able to get the proportion of man to woman in the mall, but we will never able to know the total number of people inside the mall! Thus it doesn't sounds logic we can tell someone is having anemia simply from a few tenth/hundred cc blood test.

Total value of red blood cell count should be red blood cell concentration level multiply total volume of blood. If we assume red blood cell concentration level is RBCC, then it is assuming the total volume of blood is always a constant. But in real, there is no proof that total volume of blood is always a constant. Logically total volume of blood always changed. Let's discuss further. In blood, big portion is serum, where serum comprises of water mostly. So if RBCC is low, it could means that serum is high, and vice versa. But it doesn't means that the total volume of RBCC is at adequate level.

These type of tests usually has no big impact on normal people, it is not danger. But in emergency room, these readings sometimes decided a patient's chances of live or die. These blood figure are used to determine if blood transfusion is needed, but sometimes maybe the patient body cannot absorb water well which make the RBCC value is in-range. But in fact he need bloods but was fooled by the 'normal' RBCC reading. The risk is he lost his life of not getting adequate blood transfusion.

Blood test is the simplest test, if it itself is not convinced, how convinced we are with other type of test?

New Location of Teluk Bayan Hawker Center = Golden Happy Cafe 金湾饮食中心小贩新聚点 - 快乐茶室

Referring to my blog post Bye bye Teluk Bayan Hawker Center 金湾饮食中心, Penang, with hints from David and some other reader, it is known that some hawker stall from Teluk Bayan have moved to Kedai Kopi Golden Happy 快乐茶室 (Golden Happy cafe). Here is a googlemap snapshot of its location marked in red cross. Click on the map for clearer version.

I saw the Wan tan mee, curry noodle, char koey teow, pan mee, hong kong zhu cheong fan, herbal noodle soup and more are there.

One of the limitation about the new location is its limited parking space. If you found no legal parking lot, I would recommend not to park at the road side near the hawker center, which is marked blue. Park further down a bit. I am fortunate that I have to park somewhere further down near Kota Nipah flat, but was safe from summon. When I walked to my car after dinner, few cars parked near blue mark area was summon by MPPP although it is already 8pm+. Unfortunately one of it is my friend car. Well, if you do not realize we can pay back MPPP summon near PISA instead of Georgetown. Oh yes, I got one parking summon few years ago ;p

UMHB: Chapter 1 - Inspiration from a computer (2)

Please refer to Disclaimer for some information.

Human body is perfect than Computer

Current computer come with self-diagnose and self-repair function. When God [MK: Or whoever The One that you believe in] design human body, it has even better functionality.

Computer requires certain condition of energy supply to function, e.g. supply voltage of 110V. Similarly, human body also requires certain energy supply level to function well. When the energy level drop to certain level, regeneration ability and organization ability will drop. When it drop to even lower level, self-repair ability will not in place. If it drop further, then cleansing ability, immune ability and other ability will missed it functionality gradually.

Technology evolved, and thus human living habit changed. These changes directly/indirectly cause shallow/deep impact to human health. For example, changes in sleeping habit might impact our body self-repair cycle time. Moreover, we are using those symptom-curing medication to fight the disease, these might also have negative impact on our body health. These problems could reduce human body energy level, and thus loosing health gradually.

If we use a computer rationally according to its user's manual, the computer will function well for the period that it should. Similarly, if we 'use' our human body rationally, human body will work by itself. Even though a person fall sick, the repair function will work and then recover, provided there is sufficient energy.

We believe human body is designed much more better than that of a computer. [MK: I agree, God (or The One) design is always better than human design ;) ] In order to stay healthy, we just need to follow the user's manual of human body, it is that simple. I hope this user's manual for human body will help all of you.

UMHB: Chapter 1 - Inspiration from a computer (1)

Please refer to Disclaimer for some information.

What is the Voltage of a human body?

You should what is a Computer [MK: Especially you know how to surf net to read my blog ;) ]. From the perspective of a system, human body is very similar to a computer system. Thus I will use computer as an example to explain root cause of human body disease.

Computer power supply is electricity. Referring to computer user manual, there will usually allowable range for power supply voltage of about 35%. For example, if a computer accepted voltage is 110V, the computer can still works if the voltage supplied is only 70V, which is within the functional range. Oh of course maybe the computer will not perform so well in that case. When the voltage supplied drop to 60V, below the accepted bar, the system will malfunction. For example the hard disc will not spin well. The root cause of low voltage power supply is measurable only using instrument measurement but human eye. If the user only see the hard disc malfunction, will the engineer fix the hard disc or the supplied voltage? The answer is pretty straight forward ;)

In the eye of an electrical engineer, this seems to be very simple problem. A well trained engineer or technician will usually first check the power supply, and will discover that is the actual root cause. When the power supply is adjusted, usually the hard disc will function well.

If the same scenario happen on human body, it is no longer a simple problem. The hard disc is analogue to a human body organ. Let say it is a kidney. Relating to the computer example, here come the question. The first question is: What is the voltage level for a human body? There is no way for us to get that voltage reading. And thus it has no way to proof that there were problem in the energy supply. So if the symptom is the hard disc (kidney) is malfunction, then we will try to fix the hard disc (kidney). So we apply lots of kidney medication, even transplant the kidney although most cases it will not help. In fact, maybe the kidney which get take away could be still functioning well, just it has a symptom it is malfunction.

Because there is no way to measure human body voltage level, which means the development of human body system medication has not even get started. Western medication requires data and scientific proof. Since there is no proof on human body voltage level yet, so current medical fix for the example just now is Fix the kidney but not the human body energy supply. Unfortunately this kind of cure symptom medication is the beliefs by the community now. Then it is not surprising that uremia is a not-curable disease too.

UMHB: Chapter 1 - 3 current modern medication phenomenon

Please refer to Disclaimer for some information.

1. Since polio can be cure by Sabin vaccine, it has been about 40 years we have not heard any good news that disease can be cured.

2. Except some external cut disease and some infectious disease, most of the chronic diseases e.g. diabetic, high blood pressure, uremia and different kind of cancer are only controllable, but not curable.

3. Technology evolve all these while, and there are noble price winner every year, INDICATING some disease MIGHT BE curable ONE DAY. For so many years, there is no solid solution yet.

These 3 phenomenon indicates that recent centuries modern medication is not able to cure chronic diseases. The bottleneck is not only not able to find new medicine, but it could be the medication philosophy and logic, or the research direction is incorrect.

UMHB: Introduction - Chinese Medicine Analogue to Information Technology (2)

Please refer to Disclaimer for some information.

Software is a very special product, because it is the first product that it cannot be physically seen using human eye. If one doesn’t understand the existence of software, but directly diagnose using computer hardware, it has no way to proof that software exist! Human body function is way more complicated than a computer system. Analogue to information technology, human body isn't just a pure 'hardware' but there are 'software' inside too. Lots of the idea and knowledge of TCM cound be similar to the concept of 'software', which cannot be explained from just hardware diagnosis.

Well, human body is a complicated system but its production is just simple, a man and a female. But a human body maintenance could be complicated. A doctor need to spend at least 7 years in university study, then few years practical only can become a good doctor. Even that, there are lots of disease that the famous doctor can't cure.

After I spend few years in studying TCM, I learned that incorrect health perception will create unhealthy living habit, and thus improper way in handling disease, which reduce human body Blood Qi. (血气) [血气 Blood Qi comprises of two word, Blood and Qi level. There will be more description about this Blood Qi in later chapter. I translated this to Blood Qi instead of Chinese spelling Xie Qi because I think Blood Qi is easier to be understandable than Xie Qi. Blood Gas doesn't sounds right if I just would like to direct translate word by word :) ] Different declining level of Blood Qi will resulted in different kind of disease. In other words, a lot of chronic diseases are the results of wrong usage of the human body.

There are lot of chronic diseases which has no cure solution yet, but there are also lots of hope in finding new medicine to cure them. This solution approach and research direction doesn't sounds practical. Maintain appropriate healthy life style, handle disease in proper way, increase body Blood Qi level, so that human repair and regeneration system will work, is a better way for human fight chronic diseases.

UMHB: Introduction - Chinese Medicine Analogue to Information Technology (1)

Please refer to Disclaimer for some information.

I still remembered an English story of A King Golden Touch story I read when I was a kid. Touch something and then it will become gold is a drive factor for Western science and technology. Whereas for Eastern, the Emperor was ambitious to look for immortal knowledge. These two different beliefs drive both study to different direction.

When I was a kid, in the book that I read, when it introduce a scientist, there will be always picture with lots of bottle of experiments. Before information industry boomed in late 20th centuries, the common perception of a scientist is usually a chemical scientist. Western medicine evolved from that background till today, from body check up to cure, it is all based on chemical logic, method and thus chemical medicine. Until today, Western medicine is a science to cure disease in chemical way. [MK: If you notice, disease is dis-ease :) ]

Chinese medicine has different approach in medication and cure. Each human body is a universe, and also there are other ideas like YinYang, and FiveElement (五行). These ideas was not built on a scientific proof, and is merely Metaphysics. Starting from 20th century, information and internet technology is evolving until almost everyone has to know at least the basic knowledge of it to stay connected.

Looking back at Chinese medicine, it is a way to describe a system, if we compare it with current information technology system. In this book, the author is trying to describe TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) idea using information technology.

The Paradox of Our Age - by Dr. Bob Moorehead

As I mentioned I will share this. Enjoy :)

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, yet more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things.

We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; big men and small character; steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce; fancier houses but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember to say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.

Remember to say "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Fresh vanilla

Thanks to WY for helping to buy fresh vanilla from Bali :) I like the aroma so much. It just smell good even though I have not cut it to take out the seed. She get it from Ubud market, RM 18 (IDR 30000) for 2 packets like below.

Unfortunately, due to my lazyness, the bean is spoilt now, sigh. Here is the story. Right after I get it, I wish to make some dish using it like 'agar-agar', red bean soup and etc using vanilla bean and vanilla seed. Due to some reason, I keep postponing it and keep it in fridge. I did some study online and mentioned that it should not be keep inside fridge but air tight container at shaded place. I was thinking maybe 2 weeks will be okay but after that, the nice aroma gone and the smell is a bit strange.

Anyone going to Bali again? Please let me know :)

Some tips, to take out the seed, just cut the vanilla bean along the long edge, and use knife/spoon to scrape the seed. Youtube on some video demonstration. After that, the bean can be reuse multiple times like that of cinammon, as long as you dry it and keep it in air tight container. I seldom eat sugar, if not I will keep the bean with the sugar, to add aroma to the sugar :D

Home made black soy juice yogurt 2

I did the yogurt again. This time I put 6 full spoon of black soy powder to prepare the juice, and the output is thick, and less sour. Not really sure if the sour taste has anything to do with the soy juice thickness or not. Anyway, will try few more times and hopefully will get more idea then ;)

The yogurt I used. As usual, click on picture for clearer version :)

The black soy powder.

My first solar car

I recently volunteer in a company after school event. Oh don't get me wrong, I am not studying. The after school event is organized by company, for primary school pupils. The purpose of that is to nurture science and engineering knowledge in next generation. In addition, to work on a greener environment decided this year theme: Build a solar car model.

Before we teach the pupil to do it, trainer had to attend a short training session to learn up. This is the solar car I built :D

Figure below is from top view. The red arrow is the solar panel.

The car from side view. When it is under strong sunshine, the solar panel will generate electricity which turn on the motor, then move the car from the rubber band connecting the pulley and wheel. Simple mechanism. To make your car better, it requires more attention on the wheel alignment so it run straight. Most of the pupils car run in circular direction that day ;)

Let's be greener, everyone :D

Home made black soy juice yogurt

A friend shared with me how to do yogurt. Since I forgot to buy milk, and her recipe works for soy bean juice, so I used black soy bean powder to make some.

Here is how it looks like :)

It is not as thick compared to the first one I made two days ago. I recalled I'd put less black soy bean powder this time, this could be the reason. As for the taste, it has less tofu taste and thus more sour this time. The first one is full of tofu taste and I felt like eating tofu dessert instead of yogurt :)

Here is how I did it using a 250g glass bottle:

1. Fill 1/4 of the bottle with ready made yogurt. I used Nestle Natural Yogurt Set. (Tips: Get yogurt, which is thick and solid. Don't get yogurt drink. Make sure the yogurt is not heat treated or sterilized as these process killed bacteria meaning 'useless yogurt'.).

2. Let the milk (or use soy juice powder to make thick juice. I put 6 full spoon for around 200g water for the first time, 4 full spoon this time) a bit warmer than room temperature, but not too warm as too warm will kill bacteria in turn. (Tips: Yogurt 'bacteria' is not active if it is cold. SN experience is that if the milk is a bit colder than yogurt, only small portion of milk became yogurt.)

3. Cover the bottle/container but don't tighten it. Bacteria need air to grow.

4. Put the bottle at shaded place, stay away from heat. Don't put inside fridge. Bacteria is not active if it is cold and no air.

5. After 6 hours, the yogurt is ready :D I did it in the morning before I go to work, and after around 11 hours when I reach home, it is definitely ready :)

6. You may leave 1/4 of the yogurt and use it for next yogurt production :) Or put into fridge for next use.

Easy right? Thanks SN for the tips :D

Built-in wardrobe door hinges

Have you ever pay attention to your house built-in wardrobe door hinges? I never did until some of them broken after few years, as shown in picture below.

When I take that hinges to shop to buy a replacement, the seller said he never seen hinges with cement. He was wondering my house owner get lower quality product. But anyway if you have any built-in wardrobe work in the future, it is good to verify the hinges, at least get one similar to the one below which in theory will last longer.

Fake fruit juice

Remember previously there were report saying Pearl Milk Tea 珍珠奶茶 is not healthy because of some artificial ingredient? This time, even fruit juice is fake, beside fake soy sauce, fake egg and etc.

If you can understand cantonese, please view this 8 minute video, to save your health and life.

So thankful I didn't take a lot of fruit juice when I was in Beijing for 3 months. But I recalled I did see some, the herbal gel 龟苓膏 in my beijing food sharing post.

* I had been away for one week, hope to spend more time here but still stuck with clearing work assignment, hopefully have can write more regularly :D

Hoax in Facebook

One day a friend send me a Facebook message with a video link. Something like this "Can you see yourself in this link? http://xxxxxxxx" My friend later clarify she never send that message, in fact her PC was hacked and down.

There are more and more hoax application in Facebook. Watch out before playing/installing any application in Facebook especially those requires you to key in personal information.

I still like facebook as it helps connecting me with lots of long lost friend. But we just have to be careful. Happy facebook-ing :)
